Basics Obedience

General Description: This class is specifically for dogs with hearing impairments and/or visual impairments.  We will help you communicate with your deaf dog, whether born deaf, or whether deafness/vision became an issue later in life.  Using a visual or touch marker as needed, we will show you how to get and keep your deaf dog’s attention, and teach basic manners, as well as basic obedience. We will also help you to “think like a deaf/Blind dog” and increase your understanding and communication abilities with your deaf/blind pal.

Goals: By the end of this class, you will have the knowledge to help your dog learn the following commands:

  • Focus on you

  • Sit

  • Down

  • Touch

  • Leave It

  • Stay

  • Walking on a loose leash

  • Greeting humans and other dogs appropriately

  • Door etiquette

  • The beginning of heeling work

Blind Agility

General Description: This class is an introduction to some of the obstacles of agility, including the tunnel, chute, A-Frame, tire jump, dog walk, teeter, and table with a focus on how to communicate specifically with blind dogs. Jumping skills will be introduced, as well as basic concepts for handling.
